I won't talk too much about technical projector lamp. In a projector Lamp, there is an ARC gap that is filled with ultra-high pressurized mercury vapor; the lamp operates by sending an electrical current across this pressurized ARC gap. Ballast drives high voltage to the lamp. It is very hot when operating. It can boil an egg.
Whatever brand, style of the projector that you have, the basic thing is they all use a lamp to create the image you see on the screen. Usually projectors have a built-in timer that tracks how long your bulb has been running inside the projector.
Should I replace my lamp?
A lamp can costs several hundred dollars. Follow my steps to check, you won't waste your money.1. Check to see if your lamp is burned out or broken.
Press the power button on your projector. If the projector powers on, but there is no light from the projector lens and look for a flashing red or yellow indicator LED- "lamp or bulb-style icon" somewhere on the chassis of the projector is blinking, the bulb is probably dead. The another check is to examine the lamp directly. Please look at the below video.
2- Lamp still alive but projected image is not clear or dim.
"Not clean or dim mean you lamp is not dead"
Suppose you already try adjust the image focus, resolution and lamp brightness level setting and clean the lens and your projector is used only 600 hours but your find that the projected image is not clear as you notice. Sometimes replace new lamp is not going to make your projector back to clear and bright as before. The best way to check the lamp condition. See picture below.
Conclusion:
If you find that your lamp is broken or burned out, you have to change a new lamp. There is no way to fix projector lamp.
If you find that your lamp is still working but the projected image is not clear it doesn't mean your lamp is bad, you need to check the condition of the lamp like reflector and the ace vapor. For LCD projector Type need to clean filter and prism and LCD panel every 500 hours. This post just show you how to check your projector lamp, I will make another post to clean your projector.
Thank you.
